Detail of Current Event, Novel and Creative Writing Assignments
CURRENT EVENTS:
Each student must bring in a Current Event (clipped out of the newspaper or printed off of the internet) to school each Thursday. The article is to be glued to a sheet of paper with a short summary written under the article.
MUST BE NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL NEWS!!!
NOTE: Current Event assignments are due even on weeks we are out of school; Example: Over the Christmas vacation the student would have to have One for each week missed: Assignments are due on the Thursday after returning to school.
NOVELS:
Several novels will be selected by the teachers and myself for your student to read during the school year. These novels are selected so that the students can stretch their reading ability and be exposed to books they ordinarily would not read. For the older students, the books are picked with college in mind. Every effort will be made to pick books that have* "Cliff Notes" or are on tape for students who have difficulty reading. However, if you feel your student will not be successful in reading the book chosen, please let us know and we may suggest another book.
There will be writing assignments, creative activities, book reports or all of the above while your student is reading the novels.
CREATIVE WRITING:
Your student will be given creative writing assignments throughout the year. The assignment topic could be anything from something "just for fun" to poetry to several pages assigned on a subject.
Note: The Creative Writing Format can be found on the "Orange Sheet" page of our Website
